Updating the boiler database (SAP users only)

The Boiler Database is a file which contains details of the majority of boilers which can be specified in the UK and Ireland. It allows users to select a specific boiler make and model from the Primary or Secondary heating section drop down menu in SAP 9.81 and 9.90.

Data for boilers in current production has been provided by boiler manufacturers, who have had an opportunity to check the database entries before publication. Quoted SEDBUK efficiency figures are based on test results submitted by manufacturers and certified by an independent Notified Body (accredited for the testing of boilers to European standards). Files are from www.sedbuk.com [not JPA TL] and are © Crown Copyright.

The Product Characteristics Database is changed on the first working day of each month to add new entries and amend existing ones, so data from it should not be stored for future reference.

This means on occasion and always when upgrading / installing JPA Designer you will see a Boiler Database or Product Characteristics Database warning message.

JPA Designer Version 5.03a2 and above

It is now possible to download and update the SAP PCDF (Product Characteristics Data File – the 'boiler database') from within JPA Designer:
1. On the File menu select Download and reload Product Characteristics Data File.
2. At the Product Characteristics Data File Download dialogue click Start update.
3. When the Update complete message appears click OK.
4. At the message Would you like to load the new database? click Yes.
5. The new data file is now loaded into the program.
6. Close the Product Characteristics Data File Download dialogue.

JPA Designer Version 5.03a1 and older

With versions 5.03a1 and older the database still needs to be updated manually.

Rather than having to hunt through the Sedbuck website for the files we have quick links to them below. If you get this warning, click no and then close down JPA Designer.

Link to SAP 2009 files - for SAP version 9.90: http://www.sedbuk.com/data1/pcdf2009.exe
Link to SAP 2005 files - for SAP version 9.81: http://www.sedbuk.com/data1/bedf2005.exe

Note: if you produce 9.81 and 9.90 calculations you will require both files.

1. Click on the links above and save the files somewhere logical (like your desktop).

2. Double click on one of the exe files - the self-extractor window should appear.

The extracted files must be placed inside the JPA Designer 981 folder for them to be accessed by the program. To place the extracted files click on the 'Browse' button.

3. From the next menu, click on the + symbol alongside 'My Computer, then the + symbol alonside '(C:) Local Disk' - this will show what is contained within that drive.

Open up 'Program Files', then 'JPATL' (the list is alphabetical) and finally select JPA Designer 981 so that it is highlighted in blue.

Click the 'OK' button at the bottom.

4. Now you have selected the correct folder to extract the data into, click on the 'Unzip' button.

If all has gone well you will get the '1 files(s) unzipped successfully' message. Click OK.

Follow the same procedure with the other Boiler Database file.
